Through the generosity of local Meijer stores, each child was given a Bengals jersey and hat that the players signed, a box of Disney pencils and a picture of Who Dey.

Joining me were Chris Crocker of the Bengals and his wife Carrie, teammates Michael Johnson, Clinton McDonald, 700WLW radio personality Lance McAllister and Bengal mascot Who Dey.

The former University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Bengals defensive back, who now works in sports broadcasting, stopped by the school Monday, Sept. 27, to speak to a group of about 100 seventh- and eighth-graders about making good life decisions and following their passions.

Hawkins graduated from the UC and was selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 1998 NFL draft. He played six seasons with the Bengals, and then played for the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots before retiring with the New York Jets in 2008.

He shared his life story with the students, telling them a person’s choices, decisions and consequences define them.

Today I am headed to Cincinnati Music Hall to be honored, along with 39 other outstanding individuals, as the 2010 class of Cincinnati’s “Forty Under 40″.  This is a tremendous honor, and I’d like to thank the Cincinnati Business Courier, Sue LaChapelle, and most importantly my family and close friends.  I feel very blessed and humbled by my selection, and it further inspires me to keep paying it forward and striving for excellence–not for me, but for the glory of God.

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve thrown you a bone to chew in (in the form of my blog), and I apologize for those of you who have been patiently waiting :) …..

With all the discussions surrounding player holdouts, regular season vs. pre-season length, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations (which are happening this minute)…..I’m working on a blog that will address some of the concerns that many players/coaches are having regarding these issues.
